Obama Drug Policy Calls for Drugged Driving Charges for Unimpaired Marijuana Users >>
10) MARIJUANA USE HAS NO EFFECT ON MORTALITY:
A massive study of California HMO members funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) found marijuana use caused no significant increase in mortality. Tobacco use was associated with increased risk of death. Sidney, S et al. Marijuana Use and Mortality. American Journal of Public Health. Vol. 87 No. 4, April 1997. p. 585-590. Sept. 2002.
9) HEAVY MARIJUANA USE AS A YOUNG ADULT WON’T RUIN YOUR LIFE:
Veterans Affairs scientists looked at whether heavy marijuana use as a young adult caused long-term problems later, studying identical twins in which one twin had been a heavy marijuana user for a year or longer but had stopped at least one month before the study, while the second twin had used marijuana no more than five times ever. Marijuana use had no significant impact on physical or mental health care utilization, health-related quality of life, or current socio-demographic characteristics. Eisen SE et al. Does Marijuana Use Have Residual Adverse Effects on Self-Reported Health Measures, Socio-Demographics or Quality of Life? A Monozygotic Co-Twin Control Study in Men. Addiction. Vol. 97 No. 9. p.1083-1086. Sept.
1997
THE “GATEWAY EFFECT” MAY BE A MIRAGE:
Marijuana is often called a “gateway drug” by supporters of prohibition, who point to statistical “associations” indicating that persons who use marijuana are more likely to eventually try hard drugs than those who never use marijuana – implying that marijuana use somehow causes hard drug use. But a model developed by RAND Corp. researcher Andrew Morral demonstrates that these associations can be explained “without requiring a gateway effect.” More likely, this federally funded study suggests, some people simply have an underlying propensity to try drugs, and start with what’s most readily available. Morral AR, McCaffrey D and Paddock S. Reassessing the Marijuana Gateway Effect. Addiction. December 2002. p. 1493-1504.
7) PROHIBITION DOESN’T WORK (PART I):
The White House had the National Research Council examine the data being gathered about drug use and the effects of U.S. drug policies. NRC concluded, “the nation possesses little information about the effectiveness of current drug policy, especially of drug law enforcement.” And what data exist show “little apparent relationship between severity of sanctions prescribed for drug use and prevalence or frequency of use.” In other words, there is no proof that prohibition – the cornerstone of U.S. drug policy for a century – reduces drug use. National Research Council. Informing America’s Policy on Illegal Drugs: What We Don’t Know Keeps Hurting Us. National Academy Press, 2001. p. 193.
6) PROHIBITION DOESN’T WORK (PART II):
DOES PROHIBITION CAUSE THE “GATEWAY EFFECT”?): U.S. and Dutch researchers, supported in part by NIDA, compared marijuana users in San Francisco, where non-medical use remains illegal, to Amsterdam, where adults may possess and purchase small amounts of marijuana from regulated businesses. Looking at such parameters as frequency and quantity of use and age at onset of use, they found no differences except one: Lifetime use of hard drugs was significantly lower in Amsterdam, with its “tolerant” marijuana policies. For example, lifetime crack cocaine use was 4.5 times higher in San Francisco than Amsterdam. Reinarman, C, Cohen, PDA, and Kaal, HL. The Limited Relevance of Drug Policy: Cannabis in Amsterdam and San Francisco. American Journal of Public Health. Vol. 94, No. 5. May 2004. p. 836-842.
5) OOPS, MARIJUANA MAY PREVENT CANCER (PART I):
Federal researchers implanted several types of cancer, including leukemia and lung cancers, in mice, then treated them with cannabinoids (unique, active components found in marijuana). THC and other cannabinoids shrank tumors and increased the mice’s lifespans. Munson, AE et al. Antineoplastic Activity of Cannabinoids. Journal of the National Cancer Institute. Sept. 1975. p. 597-602.
4) OOPS, MARIJUANA MAY PREVENT CANCER, (PART II):
In a 1994 study the government tried to suppress, federal researchers gave mice and rats massive doses of THC, looking for cancers or other signs of toxicity. The rodents given THC lived longer and had fewer cancers, “in a dose-dependent manner” (i.e. the more THC they got, the fewer tumors). NTP Technical Report On The Toxicology And Carcinogenesis Studies Of 1-Trans- Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol, CAS No. 1972-08-3, In F344/N Rats And B6C3F Mice, Gavage Studies. See also, “Medical Marijuana: Unpublished Federal Study Found THC-Treated Rats Lived Longer, Had Less Cancer,” AIDS Treatment News no. 263, Jan. 17, 1997.
3) OOPS, MARIJUANA MAY PREVENT CANCER (PART III):
Researchers at the Kaiser-Permanente HMO, funded by NIDA, followed 65,000 patients for nearly a decade, comparing cancer rates among non-smokers, tobacco smokers, and marijuana smokers. Tobacco smokers had massively higher rates of lung cancer and other cancers. Marijuana smokers who didn’t also use tobacco had no increase in risk of tobacco-related cancers or of cancer risk overall. In fact their rates of lung and most other cancers were slightly lower than non-smokers, though the difference did not reach statistical significance. Sidney, S. et al. Marijuana Use and Cancer Incidence (California, United States). Cancer Causes and Control. Vol. 8. Sept. 1997, p. 722-728.
2) OOPS, MARIJUANA MAY PREVENT CANCER (PART IV):
Donald Tashkin, a UCLA researcher whose work is funded by NIDA, did a case-control study comparing 1,200 patients with lung, head and neck cancers to a matched group with no cancer. Even the heaviest marijuana smokers had no increased risk of cancer, and had somewhat lower cancer risk than non-smokers (tobacco smokers had a 20-fold increased lung cancer risk). Tashkin D. Marijuana Use and Lung Cancer: Results of a Case-Control Study. American Thoracic Society International Conference. May 23, 2006.
1) MARIJUANA DOES HAVE MEDICAL VALUE:
In response to passage of California’s medical marijuana law, the White House had the Institute of Medicine (IOM) review the data on marijuana’s medical benefits and risks. The IOM concluded, “Nausea, appetite loss, pain and anxiety are all afflictions of wasting, and all can be mitigated by marijuana.” While noting potential risks of smoking, the report added, “we acknowledge that there is no clear alternative for people suffering from chronic conditions that might be relieved by smoking marijuana, such as pain or AIDS wasting.” The government’s refusal to acknowledge this finding caused co-author John A. Benson to tell the New York Times that the government “loves to ignore our report … they would rather it never happened.” Joy, JE, Watson, SJ, and Benson, JA. Marijuana and Medicine: Assessing the Science Base. National Academy Press. 1999. p. 159. See also, Harris, G. FDA Dismisses Medical Benefit From Marijuana. New York Times. Apr. 21, 2006

Medical cannabis is certainly a really beneficial medication for a whole lot of people, regardless of what some people think. I know family and friends that have been helped with medical marihauna.
Make it legal nd tax it, then watch how quickly they turn around. I am very worried about this country, we are way down the wrong road, and had best start back tracking fast or we will sink. Right now, money and power are the leaders’ (not my) God. Perhaps it was all pre-destined. I think we have a choice…..
Lets make it legal and NOT tax it. This is natural stuff that should belongs in someones window ledge, a random ditch, or some in a private garden. Lets keep this market as FREE as possible.
Right. No TAX on home-grown. Store bought maybe. What the hell, might as well tax my front lawn. As for the “addiction” myth, I’ve been smoking pot 3x a day for 40 yrs and I’M not hooked.
Old joke, but still good for a chuckle.

Come on were talking about pot here everyone does it, just last night i saw my 75 year old neghbor smokin a dubie!
I have an aunt who had cancer that metastasized to a couple of areas. She started smoking marijuana at my insistence, and it probably saved her life. It gave her back the appetite that the chemo took from her, and allowed her to keep her food down better, despite the chemo’s nauseating effects. I’m 100% certain that if it were not for that, she would have been weakened due to lack of nutrition, and probably would have passed away by now.
It’s been 10 years since she had all the tumors surgically removed and completed her chemo, and she’s still going strong. She still smokes the occasional joint with me, and has become a strong proponent to legalizing marijuana.
We need to open our eyes as a society. Just because something makes you feel good, doesn’t automatically make it bad. Alcohol causes for more problems on a daily basis than marijuana probably does in a year, and I’ve never known a pot smoker to get violent like some people do when they drink. My fellows herbalists are some of the most mellow people you’ll meet, and not a one of them is anything like the stereotypical “burn-out” that popular media and the government likes to portray us as.
Oh Shut Up! You stupid potheads. Stay away from my family!
Do you believe the rest of the propaganda too? The govt. at first didn’t even understand the effects so they exaggerated what little they knew. Like from the 60’s when the lies started and cops were told look look for semen encrusted pants because pot smokers apparently weren’t able to resist jerking off all the time.
Do you believe that pot kills brain cells? Or that it makes us unintelligent?
LOL what’s up Bill, glad you could make it. Say hi to Glen and the other @!heads for me.
It is not stupid and I would rather stay away from ignorant people like you anyway! Marijuana and Jesus saved my life from prescribed drugs(Pills) from which modern medicine loves to prescribe and make things worse than it was to start with!!!!!!!
I can not understand a society that would rather control your options for a better life as to what they think is best. Is anyone really that arrogant to think they can choose what is best for me? Please answer?
Bill……. why are you so afraid of marijuana? You call people stupid potheads….. there’s always going to be stupid people who make the rest look bad. Do you even have any idea how many responsible, professional, and successful people smoke pot? Apparently, you do not. What about stupid alcoholics…. It is certainly more dangerous and threatening than pot. What about stupid pill heads? Half the population is addicted to presciption drugs but they still hold down a family, job, etc. just as a large majority of the potheads do. You don’t have to like it, smoke it, or advacate it. Just don’t be so narrow minded and be afraid of it by commenting to “stay away from my family” like it is a contagious plague. I am a liberal democrate but I am not radical. I actually watch your show because I kinda like you. You are the only conservative person on cable news that I can stomach. That my friend is a compliment. Talk to me.
Better yet, why don’t you and your family move to another country and leave the rest of us Good Americans alone!
What is really stupid is that a google search will show you the real Bill O’Reilly who works for Fake News is actually for marijuana legalization.
I don’t know why you bumbling idiots even bother to comment and put your opinion down, it’s blatantly obvious it’s never going to legalized in my lifetime, so I’m just going to keep smoking a bowl in my living room.
Unless you plan on dying soon, I’d have to say you are wrong.
One of the things that pulled this country out of the Great Depression was the abolishment of prohibition of alcohol. If marijuana were legalized it could help us out of the current economic situation…Just saying.
Agreed!
i smoke wees once every couple weeks or so and i would love to see it become legalized. the effects and damage done to your body by alcohol far surpass what weed does yet it is still illegal. i also believe it would help our crumbling economy right now if they taxed it. just my two cents
Sure legalize it , put it in the hands of the gov’t tax the shit out of it so only those that make over $150,000 a year can afford to by it.. same as gas i guess…Now it is street regulated and the price has actually come DOWN since the mid 90’s.. Give the gov’t more control over your life .. Good idea ..what are you thinking people

Oh almost forgot .. I think $12.50 for a package of Gov’t approved cigarettes is also a little out of line
I think that legalizing marijuana would be a great step, especially in the hard-hit tobacco country. Fields that used to grow tobacco would be great for marijuana, and then also hemp, which can be used for everything from food to clothes and paper. Tax it if it’s sold outside the family, but let people grow it for themselves if they want. We have ABC stores, so why not a store that sells different types of marijuana? (For the record, I’m allergic to smoke, so don’t smoke anything at all.) As for those who are dealing with cancer, or who have a loved one dealing with wasting from cancer, please have the oncologist look into Megestrol,(sp?) aka Megas (meg-us) which is a liquid type of gentle chemo that is/was used for AIDS patients to stimulate their appetite. When my mom was dying of cancer, Megas gave her back her appetite and we could tell by the day when she took it as directed or not. My dad found out abuot it by doing research on the internet, and asked Mom’s oncologist about it. He said it wouldn’t hurt, so they tried it, and it saved her life at the time.
“Fields that used to grow tobacco would be great for marijuana”
Those fields used to be sprayed with radioactive fertilizers and this is still subsidized with taxpayer money. Only non-consumed crops should be grown there. Nothing grown in those fields should be intended for human consumption.
It will legalize if we have anything to say about it.
And we have lots to say

Why can’t we live in peace? If I can live peacefully by myself and not harm anyone (or myself) then why don’t I have the right to do what I want? This was a free country until a few ruined it, and one of them was impeached!!
As a medical marijuana patient I don’t want to see it taxed because it will price disabled poor individuals like myself right out of it. I want the option I have now, to grow my own, or have a grower. Then I will be assured I’ll always have it available. To involve the IRS in any thing is dangerous . Just my opinion.
Bill Reily? wtf? It’s guys like you who help the high feel better with every hit ! Don’t you get it? Your mind is forever stoned with biased convictions that earn you money for being a controversial character! You are on a natural high of being totally off based and thank god there’s medicine to help people like me deal with creeps like you!
Take it in Bill and blow hard!
look up on youtube, Run From The Cure the Rick Simpson story. An awesome documentary how hemp oil cures all cancers.
There’s a lot of good info for everybody to read. I think that we ought to do away with the social stigma when it comes to marijuana use. Then we can use it for financial, environmental, and physical gain.
Hmm, the government/law enforcement makes big money off keeping marijuana illegal. You would think they would abolish alcohol and tobacco if they really cared about your health, or even CHEESEBURGERS as they are already detrimental to ones physical health.
But really, the alternative revenue system is enough to keep it illegal, for now. Like, are we really trusting our government to give us truthful and accurate information! Please! Give me a break! Look at history!
Did you know in high school they tell kids marijuana creates uncanny physical deformalities contrasting with gender?
“females will develope deep voices and body hair”
“males will not develope body hair and will not develope broad shoulders and a feminine voice”
LOLOLOLOL^
And I have broad shoulders, a deep voice, and copious amounts of body hair to show.
Thank you.
The Canadian Medical Journal has just published a Canadian Study by a Quebec University that proves Smoking Weed helps with pain: http://www.cmaj.ca/cgi/content/abstract/cmaj.091414v1?ijkey=8ce2f42c979253001d77a2513c12c41e18ba70a8&keytype2=tf_ipsecsha
