"There are numerous developments to report concerning the campaign to stop the FISA/telecom bill and to target those who enable it. First, the amount raised in the last 24 hours is now a truly extraordinary $90,000 -- bringing the total for this campaign over $170,000. The more that number goes up, the more potent this campaign will be, the harder it will hit its deserving targets. Contributions can be made here.

The ACLU Press Release announcing this new coalition, which is being called "Strange Bedfellows," is here. We expect to announce numerous other additions to the coalition -- many quite significant -- very shortly."

UPDATE: BreakTheMatrix is proud to announce that we will host the "Strangebedfellows" money bomb campaign for this excellent effort in the ongoing fight for our civil liberties. Details to come..

Thank you Trevor

and other staff members here at breakthematrix for stepping up to the plate on this important collaboration effort. There are many grassroots Democrats, Greens, and other assorted leftists/independents who agree with us with respect to civil liberties. We may have our major differences on the role and size of government, fiscal & trade policy, and other areas - but a lot of those issues should be peripheral to the fundamental core issue of civil liberties.

Without liberty - does it really matter whether the government is republican or democrat? Does the R or D behind a person's name even mean anything anymore? When it comes the R's, Dr. Paul says no. The party has lost its way. Its a big government party now which is hostile to the constitution and the intent of the framers. And he is right. From the opposite side, we have people like Mr. Greenwald pointing out the hypocrisy of D's like Steny Hoyer, Rockefeller, and all the blue dog D's. The Dem base is flabbergasted that the D's were given control of Congress in a direct repudiation of all the policies of the current administration - and the war funding goes on. The war goes on. The criminal administration is not and likely will not be held accountable for anything before leaving office. When bold members of each party - like Rep Kucinich or Dr Paul - take a stand, they are relegated to the quack bin by their own parties and the media.

Its time to turn the tide. Its time to put the Pelosi's and Hoyer's and Cheney's and McCain's of both parties into the quack bin where they belong. The issue of retroactive immunity is as good as any to kick start this movement as it is indicative of everything that is wrong with Washington - on both sides of the aisle. I hope that this effort will be a success and I am counting on everyone here to help make it a success.

I quoted Mr Greenwald in the post announcing the strangebedfellows effort - but one little thing bears repeating- this isn't a D or R issue. Its an American issue. And that fact, I hope, can help overcome anyone's reluctance to teaming up with others who would normally be ideologically opposite themselves on some other issue. Thanks again,
