Former White House press secretary Scott McClellan writes in a new memoir that the Iraq war was sold to the American people with a sophisticated "political propaganda campaign" led by President Bush and aimed at "manipulating sources of public opinion" and "downplaying the major reason for going to war."

For some reason

This whole "Scotty writes a book" meme seems contrived. Didn't Dubya say (regarding Scott) that they'd be sitting on a ranch drinking lemonade talking about the good ol days, at some point? This is just a payday payback for McClellan and nothing more, yet watch the media question themselves (disingenuously) as to whether they were too easy on the WH.

payback for Scotty

I guess it just depends on which channel you watch. The neocons excoriate and threaten Scotty, Watch out, we're looking in your closet! Scotty better hope the only thing they find in there is Scotty's money.

The ooberlibs meanwhile are questioning their lack of investigative rigor - at least in regard to dubya.

The total respons of the media totally misses the point that has been made previously on this thread, not one of them gives a fig if it is true or how it happened. They all know it's true, but to question how it happened is to question their premises.

exactly!

"Did Scott just figure this out? Poor guy!"

The great juju in the sky sent down a lightning bolt and said, "Scott, this is your conscience speaking..."

And Scott said, "Wait a minute. Wait a minute. I need a book deal first..."

Big Surprise

I thought the White House Iraq Group (WHIG) was designed to do something else other than constantly produce and spew propaganda with the explicit help of a few major reporters/media outlets who exchanged their souls for access. I think its about time someday re-wrote Dante's Inferno and reserves a special place in hell for those whose selfish interest in advancing their own careers (or selling more papers) helped contribute to the deaths of hundreds of thousands. I would do it myself, but I cant control my anger long enough to form a coherent thought when I think about how bad the 4th estate failed us all. It would be almost comical if it weren't so tragic and still ongoing.

I dont know whats sadder: That the media is essentially a propaganda arm of the federal Government OR that the American people bought all the BS hook, line and sinker. What a sad state of affairs.
