I'm in the field. I turned down what would have been a pretty neat j-o-b with a Monsanto subsidiary last year.
Most everything you hear about MON is playing to people's ignorance of how genetic technology actually works, and is anti-corporate fear mongering. I have a problem with this as you don't use such tools of oppression to attack oppression.
Don't get me wrong, their upper management, legal department, etc are some of the worst of the worst of evil corporatist bastards.
But I know (am a former student of) their head of variety development. NONE of their scientists, researchers, or post-docs are bad people. They are overworked and treated like _hit; but they have the best of intentions and have actually succeeded in using MON to accomplish some great good, even if it is through a MONster. Look into how many thousands of tons of pesticide have been kept out of the foodstream by Bt GMOs; look into how much more sustainable those varieties are as opposed to the 'organic' practice of dumping tons of that same 'natural' pesticide on crops; and lots of other examples if you care to investigate sans bias.
have to completely agree with Orville here. a lot of bad rap comes from fear mongering and yes, Monsanto along with Du Ponte are home to some big dogs with bad perceptions. we would not be able to feed a large portion of the world without GM crops and pesticides. just watch the penn and teller bullshit episode on organic food :) but we should grow what we can on our own to reduce stress on ag business, cut down on the need for transportation, etc.
d-dig it
Penn Gillete for White House Press secretary in the Gary Johnson administration
me for Ag secretary. I vow to reduce the entire department to 4 people - myself, a brewer, a chef, and a massuse. And I'll work for free.
still trying to figure how to post multiple video's
