We are a fellowship of artists, musicians, actors, athletes, filmmakers and citizens who feel urged to speak out about the epidemic that Autism has become. Each one of us, in our own special way, are bringing forward a new consciousness about this disorder through a series of events designed to unite the community and the world behind one basic idea: Autism can be cured, but it will take all of us doing what we can do to make that happen. Already, incredible awareness has begun to arrive and we want to increase that by bringing the best of what we know together in one place for a music festival and silent auction which will be filmed as a documentary style movie. This event will be called AID 4 AUTISM.
The event will take place on April 11, 2009.. The location will be the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Alpharetta, GA just minutes north of Atlanta. There will be two stages set up for an all-day all-night event. All genres of music will be represented. There will be several layers to this event. 12:30 pm to 7:30 pm will be aspiring local acts and independent artists and bands. There will be a third smaller sound stage in the parking lot with more lesser known bands and in the event of rain tents will be set up. Vendors will be set up to provide our sponsors opportunity to display and sell merchandise. These stages will feature aspiring acts with amazing talent, and will give these performers a chance to shine. Starting at 7:30 pm until 11:30 pm, the main event will begin with major artists and the filmed portions of our documentary. This will be where the major headliners will play for the evening. In front of the stage a massive flat screen LED display will float on wires that will allow it to be raised when the band takes the stage. On this screen will be displayed film segments before the concert begins and between the musical acts. During each of the performances, one song will be filmed by a professional film crew for the documentary. This film crew will also capture the other elements of the event. The film segments that will be shown to the audiences will be interviews with leading doctors in the field of autism, “spotlight families”, and information about different non-profit groups who are leading the fight and helping the families to cope with the incredible puzzle that autism is. The spokesperson for this event will actually be a couple, actress Holly Robinson Peete and her husband Rodney Peete. The Peetes have four children and one of their children has autism. The stage will open with the Spanish R&B sensation Irene B. Irene is the Ingénue of renowned producer Frankie Biggz, who has a son on the autism spectrum. Following Irene will be the Glow Band featuring Tia Severino. Tia is a singer/songwriter who is also an artist and has worked with children who have autism through the Hyperbaric Therapy Center in Georgia where she designed a special playroom for the children who come to the center. Tia feels compelled to do something significant to help these children and their families. Following Tia will be Mark Leland, another singer/songwriter who has written and recorded two songs about autism: “Missing Pieces” and “Thank God for Grace.” After Mark will a be drum solo by Charlie Adams. Charlie has played drums for Yanni and has two sons with autism. Charlie is currently working on a film about autism called “Jason’s Run.” After Charlie, _____________’s band will perform. The Headliners for the evening will be _________________ and __________________ (TBD). In addition to these bands this music festival will feature appearances from sports celebrities and other personalities including comedians. A VIP After-Party is planned for the evening on the event level of the Arena. A Pre-party will take place the night before at Wild Bill’s in Duluth. In Wild Bill’s VIP Room our top sponsors will be treated to a very intimate Meet & Greet with the performers from Saturday’s shows. This week-end event will be a huge party and an incredible opportunity to raise money and a lot of awareness about autism. This opportunity won’t end with the event, because TV broadcast of the finished film and DVD sales will allow this information to reach a wider audience than just those in attendance. The film segments during the event, which will be included in the finished program, will provide even more bang for our sponsor’s buck when we include their choice of 30 second commercial spots.
So, as you can see this is a well planned event which will be professionally executed for maximum effectiveness. AURAA Shows for Autism has a long-term goal for the next 3-5 years to build this event into a multi-city event the scale of LIVE AID. We are in this for the long-haul. We know the families are, too. Looks like we've got an excuse to finally visit Georgia instead
of just passing through. I'll be checking the website.
Cool stuff!
