Obama 08!!!
That's right. I said it.
Obama 08. I support it.
Granted, I won't vote for him. But considering my lack of options, and the recent selfish stunts of born again politicos like Bob Barr, I doubt I'll be checking any box but the one that says "No confidence".
So my thought is this. If the American people are insistent upon voting for the lesser of two evils, then let them have their lesser evil. Sometimes the only way to learn and grow is to suffer.
Now, I'm sure many, if not all of you are thinking "How much more suffering could the country have gone through???". Well, honestly. You're right. Not much. But the question isn't how much suffering, but what kind.
Obama, for reasons beyond my ability to comprehend, instills a sense of hope in people. Call it naivete, call it what you will;but he does. Many people see him as an "outsider" who will "clean up Washington".
(Ironically enough, people's commercial spot memory spans don't seem to remember that Bush ran on the exact same image in 2000.)
Which brings me to my next point, which was my growing pain. In 2000, I was a fresh faced Libertarian eager to vote in my first election....But ohhh how I was warned. "DON'T VOTE FOR A 3RD PARTY!!" "MAYBE IN THE NEXT ELECTION!! BUT NOT THIS ONE! IT'S TOO IMPORTANT! THIS ONE IS TOO CLOSE!!"
Family, friends, and the media all benevolently warned me of the dangers of "throwing my vote away". I was told that as unappetizing as Bush might be, he was not the pill that Gore would present. I should just grin and bear it, and pull the lever for Bush.
So I did.
What I was awarded for my idealogical sacrifice was 8 years of arguably the worst administration in the history of the United States.
Without being too dramatic, I can state that I was genuinely hurt. Genuinely dissapointed. I felt that in my first election, eager to voice my opinion as someone politically active and aware since the age of 12, that I was taken advantage of. I was lied to.
I saw the man that I voted for (albeit begrudgingly) monitor his citizens illegally. Take us into illegal wars. Lead us down a dangerous path that I never fathomed.
In 2004, the drum once again sounded, and I was told that Kerry would be even worse. I however, had learned my lesson, and vowed never to vote for the lesser of two evils ever again.
As I cast my vote for Badnarik, my vote proved minimal, and yet again the election was very close. I'd posit it's because most people continue to fall for the self fulfilling prophecy of the "close race" in a 2 party system.(as if there could be any other kind?)
So now we're in 2008. And it seems as if the democrats are excited and charged by this young charismatic senator from Illinois.
He appears poised to seize the Presidency. And ya know what? I really hope he does. Because for all his "Hope" and "Change", he most assuredly will continue the saber rattling foreign policy, the trampling of the constitution, and the general downward trend America has been on for years now as it has sacrificed its values upon the alter of corruption and complacency.
And once his reign is initiated, I sincerely "Hope" that this is the straw that breaks the Democrats back. As they begin to join "true Conservatives" in the long breadline that is the nation's disenfranchised voter. Simply hoping for the crumbs of the nation they once held dear.
So I say "Obama 08". If things need to get worse before they get better, then let's get this done and over with.
Let's give them a taste of the corporate sanctioned, government approved combo package that is Obama's "Hope and Change", so that in 2012, we might have hopes of moving forward as a nation and giving REAL versions to the people.

I almost called you a fool IanGary, until I checked your bio and the first thing I saw was the following : "I'm a comedian.."
Yeah, you sure are..

Perhaps some folks missed where I said I didn't endorse voting for Obama, but rather stated what possible "good" (if you want to call it that) could come from such a disappointing 4 years that he will bring.

i'm voting 3rd party, but i haven't decided who yet. i was hoping for a unity, where the 3rd party would pick someone we could all get behind. my question is, is obama really the lesser of two evils? my biggest fear with him is that people buy into his rhetoric. people who at this point should be ready for a revolution or atleast the third party. if he gets into office, will these people stay complicit? i have a feeling if mccain gets in, people would be less likely to fall for anything, and i think more people will pay attention. as horrid as the bush regime is, they atleast (unintentionally) caused a huge awakening.
To me, Obama is virtually identical to McCain in terms of policy and agenda. Same privacy, and civil rights abuses. Same aggressive foreign policy.
Thus, I can't possibly vote for him. My only hope that I can glean from an Obama presidency is that he will fail in office and jade democrats as much as 8 years of Bush has jaded republicans.

Obama and Biden are rabidly anti-gun. I know McCain is not that great on gun rights either, although Palin is better. Neither Obama or McCain is an acceptable choice. But anyone who wants to own guns should not consider voting for Obama.
McCain or Obama only makes the people hate the parties. That is why bringing up the 3rd party issues it the key. Neither of those two will do anything good and both will be hated by the end of their first term. That helps 3rd party candidates make impacts in local elections.
Every city in America should have a 3rd party candidate running for mayor and city council. If we get mayors, and state reps elected that whole area will be more willing to vote for that party on the national level.
Voting 3rd party helps this cycle, don't waste your vote on McCain or Obama.
The reality is that it doesn't really matter who wins. They both play on the same team. End of story.
Aren't we awake enough to realize that we should have moved on from discussing the outcome of a sham election by now? It appears there is still a certain level of belief that it warrants our attention. I don't see it that way.
Here's what I see...
I see that we the awakened people of the United States have grown wise enough to give our attention to the solution, where WE can affect change. I see that we no longer see elected officials as a means for change - that we must become the change we want to see in the world. I see us discussing an entire new system altogether. I see us choosing to look at every crisis and destructive subject as a call to action or a call for prayer. I see it as a call to promote peace and love... and to hold the image faithfully in mind, of the world we desire to live in... and to stop seeing those who seek to control and enslave as having the power to stop us. It is only in reclaiming our power that we may create freedom, for freedom IS power.
There are only 2 emotions that all emotions stem from. Fear and Love. This is a time for leaders of love to rise and to shine for others to see... We must be the beacons in the night. As we transmute fear into love we raise the planetary vibration, leaving evil nowhere to hide. There is an understanding of how Law of Attraction works that must emerge. If we want to experience a world of freedom, we must feel free now.
The global elite understand the message I am sharing with you and they use it against us. Many who believe they are awake, are only sleep-walking. They want our heads wrapped up in this election - especially those of us that are on to them. We are focusing on the same issues as the sheeple are. The only difference is our perspective... What we focus on expands. They couldn't care less if we oppose their issues or plan to resist them, so long as we are focusing on them.
This article was well written and in one school of thought I would agree with the author... but I feel it is more important to guide our focus elsewhere.
Check out my content for more on this...

Those are beautiful words, and I am actually a big fan and seeker of spiritual awakening. However, here in the real world the issue is this: The global elite as you (correctly) call them have guns, and they are going to continue to point them at us and steal our property, force our children to die in their wars, and otherwise treat us like the slaves they see us as until we A) use the system to replace them en masse in our government or B) resist them with force. Simply ignoring them is not going to stop them from impoverishing to the point of starvation, at which point we will not have much time for the spiritual life as we will be spending most of our time trying to feed ourselves for another day.

The winning and losing politicos know they win or lose by our vote totals as well. If they could just get a few more of us to vote for them than the other guy they win. That's why they pander to us more and more verbally. But talk is cheap. Their actions are just the opposite of what I want and I'd be a damn fool if I were stupid enough to vote for either.
regardless of what individual people within the freedom movement think and feel, there is a broader world that we have to win over in order to provoke any substantial change. The perception of that broader world is still governed by "the matrix" of which this sham election is a part. Our strategies for winning hearts and minds MUST be based on analysis of their perception of the world, otherwise we will be speaking a foreign language.
Think of the movie The Cell. Jenifer Lopez's character must travel consciously into the dreams of the comatose serial killer and play all of his twisted games in order to save his latest victim from certain death.
Reality doesn't matter. the perception of the masses, the reality of the sheeple is where we must apply ourselves. Otherwise we're just preaching to the choir so to speak.
Government has solved the age old dilemma of the alchemists. In order to turn lead into gold, just add blood.
I agree. The election is a farce, a sham, a distraction, a ritual for the masses to make them think they are in control. The curtain has been pulled back, the genies out of the bottle...if you paid any attention.
We are SUPPOSED to squabble and care about the election, just like we are supposed to go to school board hearings and "make our voices heard" at innumerable dog and pony exercises in "citizenship" that are actually nothing but tightly controlled and managed consensus shaping and Delphi exercises run by "facilitators". They know how to deal with resistors within the system, look at what happened with Ron Pauls supporters. Working within the current rules (and the Constitution is not the current system we are living under) results in more of the same treatment and the identification as a "resistor" to be dealt with accordingly. It wastes your time and defuses any threat of change other than the desired pre-conceived outcomes.
A couple people said that John McCain would be better for the freedom movement, but I disagree. If John McCain wins and people don't see change, they will get so tired of republicans that most people won't want to even consider voting republican in 2012. On the other hand, if Obama wins and people don't see change, maybe then they'll see that the democratic party is not the party for the "middle class" like they thought it was. Then, hopefully, they will be more open to republicans or even third parties. Therefore, I think there is some validity to this post.
you raise a good point. 12 years of failure from the Republican party will most definately give the dems a V in 2012. I'm not sure any amount of grass roots effort can empower a 3rd party to top tier status in just 4 short years. though its all so variable depending on what happens with 3rd parties this election season, and also what happens in 2010.
of course I would never vote for either of these clowns.
Government has solved the age old dilemma of the alchemists. In order to turn lead into gold, just add blood.
This election the top issue on everyone's mind will be the economy, so how people vote will reveal a lot about how they have interpreted the current economic crisis, and what they want to happen next. If Obama's populism wins the day it will indicate that we are headed for a long downward spiral, because it will mean that Americans have lost confidence in their ability to provide for themselves without the help of the government. On the other hand, given that the mainstream perception of republicans is that they favor free markets, a McCain win would be a sign that Americans have some sense of what is in the best long term interest of the economy. If McCain disappoints them, as he will, they will eventually turn to libertarians for the solution.
Our main stumbling block on the road to freedom is the character of the American people. I am convinced of that. It's not about how bad the politicians are. If the majority of Americans are bereft of good sense and integrity, there is no hope for liberty.
what a sell out!
I understand where you are coming from, because I have pondered the fruitful outcome of this election for some length of time.
Should Obama win, he will obviously only make meaningless superficial changes to appease this special interest or that special interest. Because the democratic party is made up of special interests, no matter what they call them. Everyone the world over will see that the American bipartisan system is a sham. Except the Republican party, which will unify and grow stronger as they gather and bond over partisan blame games and finger pointing. Being that a large chunk of our base is Republican, this is in my opinion a double edged sword.
If John McCain wins, the fracturing, splintering, and general disenfranchisement of the Republican party will grow more severe as yet four MORE years fails to provide any relief. In this scenario the democrats are still disenfranchised, because they will most likely retain the House and Senate, which will continue to just stand by and watch while President McCain has his way with us. I'm not sure if that will counter their resentment for Republican America who has "forced" upon them 4 MORE years. regardless though, the Republican Party will be weak and vulnerable, and we will have their medicine. If Only they would return to their roots and come away from the fear mongering and war mongering.
In summary, I believe that if John McCain wins and the Neo Con maverick fails miserably, which he will, there is a good chance that we can get a Ron Paul Republican, if not Dr. Paul himself to the general election in 2012 under the Republican banner.
I used to be an Obama supporter, but now, as a committed freedom fighter, I believe that the best strategic advantage for us comes if John McCain is elected. The Republican Party will be ripe for the picking.
Of course these are just vague scenarios that unfold in my head while I'm in the shower, that take no account for "terror" attacks and economic chaos/salvation (LoL) and media propaganda which pretty much controls public perception of the world.
Government has solved the age old dilemma of the alchemists. In order to turn lead into gold, just add blood.
You are not alone, Ian. A lot of people figure that the only way we will ever have a chance to offer an alternative to a people who otherwise don't care enough to listen is for those people to starve a little and realize who stole their money. The thinking is that Obama will be just as much a warmonger (which he already says he will be), PLUS he will pile more welfare on top of the equation and end the American economy faster. After today, I don't think it's going to matter. We're going to crash next year - and I'm sticking to my May 7 prediction!
I hope you're practicing your gallows humor!
