The Spin Cycle - Inside the Spin Room

Me and thousands of other journalists spent the evening in Nashville, Tennessee covering the second Presidential debate between John McCain and Barack Obama. More than anything else, I was struck by the sheer magnitude of the media spectacle and wondered what value it really holds for American news consumers.

"Yes, we journalists package things up to put them in perspective". From the horses mouth!! lol
They stand there and tell you what to think- that's the end result. Good video. ;)

No news....

Yeah, I first asked Wolffe if news was being made at the event. His answer was one word: "no." When I have time, I hope to "package" another video from the event. Thanks for the comment!

Nice Coverage, Dustin

Responding to the question of why the media "circus," my initial thought was "circling the wagons" to protect the corporate messages.

Thanks, Gary.

I agree wholeheartedly. I think laziness and economics are part of it, too. I think it's actually cheaper to fly reporters around periodically for these spectacles (including a crew and all the equipment) than it is to actually hire investigative journalists to do the hard work of digging up dirt for months. More to your point, though - I realize they aren't interested in kicking up any real dirt because, sooner or later, the trail would lead back to their executives and board members or certainly their interests.
