Want To Join the Fight For Civil Liberties? AccountabilityNowPAC.com!
The Ron Paul movement is pleased to be counted among the founders of a unique and diverse transpartisan coalition that has formed in response to the corrupt FISA reauthorization process now unfolding in our Congress. BreaktheMatrix and a gathering of friends from the left are the original Strangebedfellows, and we've come together to stand for civil liberties, constitutional governance and the Bill of Rights. Our alliance draws from left and right; from Democrats, Republicans and Libertarians; from grassroots bloggers and from constitutional lawyers-- and we all share a core commitment to end this surveillance state that has reared its ugly head during the Bush II years. So what are we doing? And why? Here's the latest.
Our leftist colleagues led by Jane Hamsher of firedoglake.com have formed a political action committee called Accountability Now PAC to lead the fight against the ongoing erosion of constitutional rights and liberty in America. We've watched what's been happening, and frankly WE'VE SEEN ENOUGH. The George Bush administration has generated a steady stream of fear mongering propaganda to convince the American people to give up core liberties in exchange for the illusory promise of so called "security," but as Benjamin Franklin expressed so well the result of this process is that we end up losing both. The mission and purpose of Accountability Now PAC is to make our politicians understand that civil liberties and constitutional rights MATTER, and the PAC will support those candidates and leaders who support constitutional rights and oppose politicians who don't. Democrat or Republican-- it makes no difference; the standard and test will be the same for all. There is no place for partisan politics or regurgitation of the tired "left--right" mantra where constitutional governance and the Bill of Rights are concerned.
Ron Paul was a lonely voice against the fear mongering right wing talk machine during the Republican presidential campaign, but we from the Ron Paul community are not alone any more. Leaders and thinkers from the left have joined us, and we're proud to stand with such people against the abuses of a runaway police state. Warrantless surveillance? Retroactive legal immunity for lawbreaker telecoms? The Patriot Act? FISA? No more of this. It's time to hold our politicians ACCOUNTABLE-- NOW.
BreakTheMatrix has been selected to act as the organizer of a moneybomb for AccountabilityNowPAC to fulfill on August 8, 2008. For those of you who might remember, August 8 was the date in 1974 when Richard Nixon resigned from the presidency as a result of some unlawful surveillance of his own at the Watergate. We chose this date for our moneybomb as a reminder that even a president-- let alone a group of compliant telecoms-- is not above the law in America. So join with us! Become a Strangebedfellow! Go to www.AccountabilityNowPAC.com and enter your pledge to contribute during our transpartisan moneybomb on August 8th. Let's come together from across the political spectrum to send our leadership class a message about constitutional rights they will never forget. And check back to the AccountabilityNowPAC website regularly-- you can watch the pledges mount up and learn about the new members that join our alliance every day. Strangebedfellows; AccountabilityNowPAC-- fighting for civil liberties and an end to the surveillance state in our nation.
