I had some trouble, initially, uploading a profile picture. No error, but repeated attempts to upload were just quietly unsuccessful.

I tried a different image and when that worked, I took a guess at the problem and resized my original image larger from 143 x 137 to 300 x 287. The larger file was accepted. I'm not sure what the threshold is, but wanted to make you aware of it.

Thanks for the great work-

I had trouble as well. Increasing the width (I used Photoshop) to 300 worked for me too.

Maybe the edit page should specify that a minimum size is required?

Thanks.

Tried several times with several sizes using Firefox and they all failed. I then tried IE and it worked.

I don't know how to get an image to load. I'm going to try a larger-file-size photo, because every time I've tried to load a reasonably small jpeg or png profile pic to load the screen refreshes, and when I check my profile pic, it's the same "hands against the inside of the tv screen" default image.

Breaking out of this matrix is proving to be most difficult!

For a long time, the profile page wouldn't let me add a signature either, but I see that that's finally working, so I know the web team is working. If the LP Convention were in 2 months, I would just come back in a month, but there's a lot of good content that I have that simply isn't getting shared with the people who need to see it.

Those people can go to http://www.jcwitmer.blogspot.com if they're interested.

For all the Paul movement's supposed libertarianism, I've found that on forums like this, they are actually control freaks, barely initiated to libertarian ideas, or the forum just doesn't work. "Justin TV" had some kind of ignoramus moderator who was barely able to understand rudimentary English who kept censoring people (including myself).

I guess that's what pro-freedom elections are all about: trying to raise the floor, since the lowest common denominator always ruins everything. The "conservative" religious / contradictory fools have hopelessly watered-down the Paul campaign, from a more pure libertarian "capitalist / objectivist / non-aggression principle" style of libertarian to a "conservative" movement.

Interestingly, Ron Paul is not a conservative. Conservative doesn't accurately describe him. He is, like Friedrich Hayek, a libertarian: http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig6/hayek1.html (See Hayek's "Why I Am Not a Conservative" at the preceding link)

That said, if Paul still has a chance, he's as good a chance at electoral freedom as the American people are likely to get in 2008, except for the Libertarian candidate (whom I most likely will be voting for, unless the Paul campaign pulls off a miracle in Minnesota). But basically, what that means is that electoral freedom is not as full and all encompassing as freedom won by a general refusal to cooperate, and a willingness to use alternate currencies, and a deep knowledge of means for protecting one's privacy. For more on protecting your privacy and personal freedom, I recommend the back catalogue here: http://www.paladin-press.com/privacy_statement.aspx

BTW: that would be a great name for the money-bomb attempt to provide a gracefully decaying strategy in Minnesota. "Miracle in Minnesota" - "Yes, I can give []$10 []$20 []$30 []$40 []$50 []$75 []$100 []$250 []$500 []$1,000 []other for a Miracle in Minnesota!"

Quite possibly, the best strategy is to form a synthesis with the Libertarian Party. In all honesty, I haven't read Paul's book yet, though I plan to soon. I am also looking forward to reading this book:
http://www.aynrandbookstore2.com/prodinfo.asp?number=ET74M about the battle to end slavery (from an objectivist perspective, similar to Lysander Spooner's perspective...)

(Although I've read many, if not most, other books about libertarian political strategy.)

I was going to use some

I was going to use some variant of the gadsden flag, and got the below text from an interesting website in my search for one with a large enough file size. I would love to see all kinds of Gadsden Flags, and all kinds of Wayne Root photo avatars. The more backup plans we have, and the more everyone is on the same page with those backup plans, the more likely the freedom movement is to succeed, LONG TERM.

I don't know about you folks, but my plan for freedom is like my life: I intend to live a long time. And if one strategy does not yield freedom, surely another one will.

"AN AMERICAN GUESSER" REASONING BEHIND THE RATTLESNAKE (GADSDEN) FLAG:
from: http://www.learningfromlyrics.org/Gadsden.html
==========================
In December 1775, "An American Guesser" anonymously wrote to the Pennsylvania Journal...This anonymous writer, having "nothing to do with public affairs" and "in order to divert an idle hour," speculated on why a snake might be chosen as a symbol for America...

First, it occurred to him that "the Rattle-Snake is found in no other quarter of the world besides America." The rattlesnake also has sharp eyes, and "may therefore be esteemed an emblem of vigilance."

Furthermore, "She never begins an attack, nor, when once engaged, ever surrenders: She is therefore an emblem of magnanimity and true courage. ... she never wounds 'till she has generously given notice, even to her enemy, and cautioned him against the danger of treading on her."

Finally, "I confess I was wholly at a loss what to make of the rattles, 'till I went back and counted them and found them just thirteen, exactly the number of the Colonies united in America; and I recollected too that this was the only part of the Snake which increased in numbers..." 'Tis curious and amazing to observe how distinct and independent of each other the rattles of this animal are, and yet how firmly they are united together, so as never to be separated but by breaking them to pieces. One of those rattles singly, is incapable of producing sound, but the ringing of thirteen together, is sufficient to alarm the boldest man living."

Many scholars now agree that this "American Guesser" was Benjamin Franklin.

...Anyway, now you know what to think of in place of the default logo when you see my name. I am one of many, of a continually multiplying number of people who will not submit, and who claim no master. :)

I'll be supporting Ron Paul if he makes a miracle happen in Minnesota. If he was even the Republicans' vice presidential candidate, I suppose I'd vote for him (would I actually have to vote for McCain? I don't think I could do that!). Best of luck to all the delegates there.

But since there's little chance of that happening, I'll be supporting Wayne Root or whoever the LP candidate is, on Nov 4 2008.

One thing I will not be doing: Voting for a "write-in" Ron Paul candidacy. If we do that, it simply shows the American public that the libertarian revolution is easily derailed.

You see, write-ins don't get counted in the age of Diebold. There are too many ways to throw them out. Until the states return to printing paper ballots, or the parties themselves return to paper ballots, there is no hope for a write-in candidacy (and thus little hope for freedom having a voice in electoral politics).

Can't upload image

Error: The selected file /tmp/tmp_2DMq7S could not be copied.
Your profile image must be at least 38 pixels wide and 38 pixels tall (your image was x pixels).

Tried several file sizes, with both IE and Firefox, to no avail. Anyone else with similar problem?
